A DC Fire and EMS firefighter shared his journey through recovery after sustaining critical burns to his face when a burning vehicle exploded and engulfed him in flames.
Matthew Westerback was transported to the Burn Center at MedStar Washington Hospital where he received extensive treatments.
His wife was eight months pregnant when the incident occurred, NBC Washington reported.
He returned to duty 103 days after the explosion.
